Repair Tips For Your Dishwasher To Get It Working Like New

Posted on: 19 April 2023

The dishwasher in your home sees a lot of dirty dishes from a number of family meals, parties, and other get-togethers. When your dishwasher breaks down, there are a lot of dishes that will need to be done by hand, which can take a lot of time out of your day, time away from your family, and time away from your guests that you have at your home. If you have a dishwasher and it has stopped working, read on for some repair tips to help get it working again.

Check For Power

Test your dishwasher for power to be sure it isn't a problem with the outlet it may be plugged into rather than the motor on the dishwasher itself. Check the outlet for continuity and then test the plug itself for power. Be sure that a fuse didn't blow, or that the outlet didn't just go bad, which can happen, especially when it sees a lot of power usage. After you have checked the outlet for power, you can plug the dishwasher into another outlet to see if it runs. If the outlets aren't bad, but the dishwasher doesn't run elsewhere, the dishwasher motor may be the problem and it should be repaired by a professional technician.

Inspect The Sprayer Arms

Take a close look at the sprayer arms inside the dishwasher. If your dishwasher runs, but doesn't get your dishes clean, the sprayer arms may have calcium buildup caught in the sprayer openings and water isn't spraying your dishes clean. This can happen if you have hard water in your home. Remove the sprayer arms and clear out the debris blocking the sprayer openings. You can allow them to soak in a sink or in a washtub to help dissolve the calcium, then clean it out with a toothpick. Replace the arms when finished to see if it gets your dishes clean again.

Inspect The Board

Most dishwashers have digital buttons on the display, and no longer have a knob to turn on your dishwasher. If you are unable to get anything on the digital readout to run properly, the board may need to be replaced inside the dishwasher. This may be something you can do on your own, or you may need to hire a professional to replace it for you.
